"The first time I saw a production of Pirates of Penzance. I was a camper at the Interlochen National Music Camp. I fell in love with G&S operettas. I guess I assumed nobody could put on a better production, but I have to say that the Carmel Rep Theatre may have just done so". My daughter and I loved the show, the actors, the sets, the costumes. Wonderful job to all of you.

This is the American Premiere of EssGee's production for the 21st Century Premiere of Gilbert and Sullivan's The Pirates of Penzance. This musical is a comic opera in two acts, with music by Arthur Sullivan and libretto by W.S. Gilbert. The story concerns a young pirate who, having completed his 21st year, is released from apprenticeship to a band of tenderhearted pirates. He meets a daughter of a Major-General and the two young people fall instantly in love. The young pirate finds out he was born on the 29th of February, and so, technically, he only has a birthday each leap year. His apprenticeship indentures states that he remains apprenticed to the pirates until his 21st birthday, and so he must serve for another 63 years. Pirates was the fifth Gilbert and Sullivan collaboration and introduced the much-parodied Major-General’s Song.
